How vacuum casting works
The process begins with a master pattern, the reference object every copy will replicate. At Fabit this master is frequently 3D printed, using DLP for its fine surface, then finished to a flawless standard. A silicone mould is formed around this master, capturing its shape and detail in a flexible, reusable negative. Once the mould is cured, it is cut open, the master removed, and the mould is ready for casting.
To cast a part, liquid resin is poured into the mould, which is then placed in a vacuum chamber. The vacuum is the defining feature of the process. It draws out trapped air and pulls the material into every crevice of the mould, so fine details, sharp edges and delicate textures reproduce cleanly without bubbles or voids. The material cures, the part is removed, and the mould can be used again for the next copy.
