Building layer by layer

Inside the DMLS machine, a thin layer of powder is spread across a build plate. A laser then traces the cross-section of the trophy, melting the powder exactly where the design requires. The plate lowers by a fraction of a millimetre, a fresh layer is spread, and the laser fires again.
