A replica trophy is a copy of a main trophy, usually at a smaller scale, that a champion keeps when the original stays with the competition. It solves the basic problem of a perpetual trophy: the winner should have something permanent, but the original has to go back on stage next season.
Why competitions use replicas
Most major leagues keep one trophy that accumulates the history of the competition and hand the champion a replica to keep. That gives the competition continuity and gives the winner an object for their own trophy cabinet.
Replicas also reduce risk. Championship celebrations are hard on objects. If the piece being lifted, passed around and paraded is a replica, the original stays intact for the next twenty seasons.
How replicas are produced
Because a replica comes from the same digital files as the original, the geometry is identical and only the scale changes. That is what keeps replicas affordable: the design work is already done, and 3D printing and casting both scale predictably.
Details do need attention at a smaller size. Fine relief, text and thin structural elements are re-checked at scale so the replica reads as the same object rather than a soft copy of it.

Sizing, cost and what winners actually receive
Replicas are usually produced between half and two thirds of the original height, which keeps the proportions readable while fitting a display cabinet. Below half scale, fine detail and text start to disappear and the piece needs to be re-detailed rather than simply scaled.
Cost is driven by material and finish rather than by design, since the geometry already exists. That is why many competitions produce a small annual batch: one for the champion club, sometimes one for the most valuable player, and occasionally one for the archive. Where budgets are tight, a medal set or a plaque paired with the perpetual trophy achieves the same purpose: the winner keeps something permanent while the competition keeps its history in one object.
