We design the internal structure of large trophies to carry their own weight and withstand handling without compromising the exterior finish. Every oversized piece is engineered before it is produced, not scaled up from a smaller model.

How big can a big trophy actually be, and what are the structural limits?
There is no fixed upper limit on the size of trophies we produce, but every large-format commission begins with a structural assessment. The internal engineering of an oversized trophy determines whether it can support its own weight, survive transport and hold up through a live event without any surface damage or structural failure.
We have produced trophies well over a metre in height and with complex sculptural forms that require internal armatures and support systems invisible from the outside. The design process for these pieces integrates structural planning from the earliest concept stage rather than treating it as a separate engineering problem.

What materials work best for large and oversized trophies?
The material choice for a large trophy depends on the visual language of the event, the structural requirements of the form and the practical demands of transport and handling. Metal is the most common choice for large trophies because it offers rigidity, holds fine detail well and photographs under event lighting with authority.
For very large pieces, we often combine materials, using a metal exterior with an engineered internal structure that reduces overall weight without sacrificing surface quality. Advanced 3D printing allows us to achieve complex geometries that would be impossible with traditional fabrication methods alone.
The choice of finish also matters at this scale. A brushed metal surface reads differently under stage lighting than a high-gloss finish, and both communicate different things about the event’s character. We advise on finish as part of the concept stage.
How long does it take to produce an oversized custom trophy?
For a large-format trophy with custom design work, we recommend allowing twelve to sixteen weeks from briefing to delivery. This covers concept development, revision rounds, structural engineering, production, finishing, quality inspection, packaging and international shipping.
Tighter timelines are sometimes possible depending on the complexity of the form and the destination, but compressing the design or production phase always introduces risk at this scale. If your event date is fixed, share it at the start of your enquiry and we will give you an honest assessment of what is achievable.
For events where the trophy is also a PR asset, revealed ahead of the final, the reveal date becomes part of the timeline planning alongside the production and shipping schedule.
Can a large trophy be used as a travelling or permanent trophy?
Yes, and many of our large-format commissions are designed with exactly that in mind. A travelling trophy, one that is held by the champion and returned for the next cycle, requires additional engineering considerations around durability and ease of handling compared to a one-off presentation piece.
We design travelling trophies with replaceable name plates or engraving panels so each champion’s name can be added without altering the main structure. The trophy itself is built to withstand repeated transport, handling and display over many years.
If you are commissioning a permanent trophy to be held by the event organisation rather than a champion, we design the base and plinth accordingly, often with space for multiple years of winners to be recorded directly on the piece.
