A timeless block design award for the MIA’s, Belgium’s leading music awards, featuring speaker elements and UV printed logos.

About this case

For Spot Buy Center, Fabit designed and produced the award for the MIA’s, the most significant Belgian music awards.

The form is a timeless block design with an ultra smooth surface finish in white or red. A glossy topcoat gives each award the refined quality expected from a national music award.

Three dimensional elements in black and silver reference the form of a music speaker, connecting the award directly to the industry it celebrates. The event logo is UV printed in full colour at the centre of each award, adding a vibrant point of identity within the restrained form.

Winner names are laser engraved on a plate on the lower half, present but discreet.

The challenge

The MIA’s award needed to balance visual restraint with the energy of a music industry ceremony.

The block form and smooth finish communicate permanence and prestige, while the speaker elements and UV printed logo bring in the visual energy of the music world.

Winner names on laser engraved plates required precise typographic execution across the full production run. Each plate needed to be positioned accurately in relation to the overall composition of the award.

Materials

The award body is precision manufactured using additive manufacturing, creating the block form with the surface quality required for an ultra smooth coating.

The surface receives a high end finish in white or red, followed by a glossy topcoat applied evenly across the full form.

Three dimensional speaker inspired elements in black and silver are produced separately and integrated into the award. The event logo is UV printed in full colour at the centre.

A laser engraved plate carrying the winner’s name is positioned on the lower half, aligned and bonded during final assembly.

The block form and speaker elements are produced through additive manufacturing, each prepared to the surface quality required by their specific finish.

The UV printed logo and laser engraved winner plate are produced separately and integrated with precise alignment during assembly.

Hand finished excellence

The high end surface coating and glossy topcoat are applied in stages, with each stage assessed before the next step begins.

Speaker elements are finished and integrated with alignment verification. Laser engraving of winner names is reviewed for typographic accuracy.

Each completed award is individually checked before dispatch.
